Tunnels Beaches is Ilfracombe’s most popular tourist attraction and its main
blue flag beach.
Why is a fee charged?
Tunnels Beaches is privately owned and receives no funding, grants or subsides
from local councils, or any other bodies.
Your fee is necessary to keep the tunnels and beaches open to the general public,
to maintain a very high standard of facilities, to clean the beaches and protect
our beautiful coastline and its wildlife. Your fee provides lifeguard cover during
the summer school holidays to ensure safety and security for you and your family.
The fee is also critical to allow maintenance of the tidal pool, which often suffers
from severe storm damage.

No, there has always been a fee since creation in 1823.
Is the beach golden sand?
No, our natural coastline is NOT GOLDEN SAND!!

Yes, tickets are valid all day – come and go as you please.
Please note: Last entry is 30mins before closing time.

access is good with only a gentle slope leading to the main beach. Access WCs
